A collaboration between fellow Design Nerd Kim Cooper and myself, Nest is a small-scale art/seating installation, designed to connect us in an innovative way to the birds that live, migrate through and overwinter in the Sen √°kw (False Creek) area of Vancouver.

Design of the Nest was conceived in February of 2014 and through a cultural grant with the City of Vancouver (as well as permission from Engineering Services to use the outdoor site at Creekside Community Centre) construction began in August at the Vancouver CoLab. The structure employs a mix of local and re-purposed pine, cedar, spruce and re-purposed steel.

These images illustrate the sequence of the build including preparation of wood, use of tools, structural and craft features of the Nest.
